I’ve had a fashion/style and miscellaneous tumblr blog for a while now which was the name of this blog. I have now changed it to ‘style synonymous’ (the url being ‘fate-synonymous’ out of indecision to which I prefer).
I felt ‘collective reveries’ was deserving of a higher thought process than the reblogging of images. Images which have been reproduced and multiplied so many times that they lack any sort of individuality. This led me to the word ‘synonym’ and the correspondence of everything to everything else despite a constant struggle to be different or fresh. When one right clicks a word on their word processor a list of other words appear which can replace the original word. Many of our blogs are replaceable. They are a compilation of someone else’s images (on the whole). I could imagine a computer algorithm which could collect the data of which images people reblog to build up some sort of profile of us and group us into categories.
If someone ‘right-clicked’ my style blog I can freely imagine a list of other blogs synonymous with mine. We are fated to be synonymous. In style at least. Every image we see has influenced our opinion of what looks good. One of the most disturbing effects of this is the likening of a style we once hated and now wear. Through constant exposure to an image it becomes tolerated and sometimes even valued.
